I was casually seeing a guy while I was at uni (he wasn't a student), and mentioned that I was planning to finally get the tattoo that I'd wanted for a number of years and was deciding on the design.

His response?  "Okay, but if you get my name or initial or something I'll be really angry!"

Um.....  WAIA!

Joking was my first thought, as well. If he really thought some girl he'd been casually seeing for a few weeks was going to get his name tattooed (how do you conjugate that?) on herself i can only imagine he was looking toward many future disappointments.

...i bet he thought that song was about him, too...

I certainly wouldn't have been able to contain the snarky reply ... that is if I could get anything past the jawdrop!

The reply would probably be something like "Naw, I was planning to get the names of our future children -- you like Emma and Austin, right?"

or

"My tattoo is something I want to enjoy for the rest of my life, not someone I can't even remember in 5 years!"

Sounds like he's had a bad experience with regards to this. Maybe there is an ex somewhere with his name on her??

Or he has hers?

I really think I'd have a hard time not laughing and saying something along the lines of "Don't flatter yourself!"  It would probably also be the last time I'd go out with a guy who thinks I have so little sense.

Yeah, my first thought was, "Why kind of girls have you dated before?!"

I have a tattoo. I love tattoos. But, I don't even think I would get my husband's name put on my body anywhere (If I had a husband). Even when I was considering a tattoo dedicated to my mom, it was all symbolic, and not her name.

My thoughts are that either he was thinking you were *way* more into this relationship that you probably were, or he's been bitten before.

Unless it also had his social security number why would he care? He isn't the one with an ex's name printed on his body - which is probably pretty awkward with her next boyfriend if they don't share the same name.
