When you're trying to find information over the phone and get caught in one of those blasted phone trees.  "Press 1 for X, 2 for Y, and 3 for Z."  Which doesn't help me at all when I have a question about Q.  >:(

ohh and when you are not sure if your question falls under 1 or 2, so you pick one and then can't go back. Instead you have to hang up and redial going through the blasted tree again.

Supposedly, if you just keep hitting 0 (zero) during the automated msgs, it'll kick you to a real live human being.

There used to be a list of shortcuts for various companies' 800 numbers that would get you to a live rep.  I think it was dialahuman.com but I could be mistaken.

I will name and shame HSBC does Not do that. I tryed and the really anoying woman just kept saying.
"please enter your 16 digit card number"
000000000000000
"please enter your 16 digit card number"
000000000000000
"please enter your 16 digit card number"
000000000000000
"please enter your 16 digit card number"
000000000000000
"please enter your 16 digit card number"
000000000000000
"please enter your 16 digit card number"
000000000000000
"please enter your 16 digit card number"
000000000000000
"please enter your 16 digit card number"
000000000000000
"please enter your 16 digit card number"
000000000000000

I did not have my card as I had lost it and this was the only Number for them I could get.
I was crying hysterically when DH came home and lent me his card so I could get the lost and stolen number off the back and call them.

the tree still started with
"please enter your 16 digit card number, or hold and you will be connected with an operator."

I nearly died until she ended with "Hold..."

I still have to fight the erg not to scream when I call HSBC for something. In fact I avoid calling at all cost.

For at least some companies cursing at the phone tree will also get you to a human >:D I found out by accident one day when I got frustrated and started swearing at the automated message and it connected me to a person without my pressing anymore buttons.

Oh, what I hate is doing this with cellphones, the touchscreen ones.
Even just getting to my messages and the "press 1 to listen again, 2 to keep,..." because by that time my screen put itself on sleep mode, and it's a pain to bring it back, you're not sure where to put your finger in case you hit a button you don't want to if it come up before you realize...

I honestly prefer those to the voice activated ones.

"Hi, are you having trouble with your service? If you are having trouble connecting, say 'Connecting".  If you are having trouble with your battery, say 'battery!"
"Dropped calls."
"I'm sorry, I do not recognize that command.  If you are having trouble connecting, say 'connecting."  ::)

Old school Blackberry phones- you can't update or reset them in under half an hour.

One of the local taxi companies used to have one like that (not sure if they still do, I haven't taken one in a while) that had a hard time recognising one location I went to all. the. time. I found out that if you just confused it enough it would kick you through to a person.  >:D

"Please state your destination."
"[name] square."
"I'm sorry, I don't recognise that location."
"*sigh* [name] square."
"I'm sorry, I don't recognise that location."
"Spaghetti!"
"Did you mean 'Civic'?"
"No."
"Please state your destination."
"Kitty litter!"
"I'm sorry, I don't recognise that location."
"Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!"
"I'm sorry, I don't recognise that location. Please hold for an operator."
"Set aphasia to stun!"

I have a specialist doctor I have to see at very specific intervals.  He is the one who stressed how important it is that I get blood work at certain times and see him at specific intervals. His office has the most ridiculously poor availability and he's canceled the last two appointments I've set.

There is only one other specialist in the county and the other doctor is not accepting new patients as they are retiring in a few months.  It is not financially feasible for me to go out of network.  It has become extremely aggravating to deal with this office.
Contact Client Services of your health plan and complain.

Update: I am now up to 3 cancelled appointments...and that was my breaking point. I called and complained.  After some hemming and hawing, they found me someone new.  Seems like I wasn't the only one to call and Female Dog about this guy.

I suspect these are actually controlled live by people with type-and-talk programs. And who hate me.

It: "If you need help with booking, say 'booking'. If you need help with ticketing information, say 'information'."
Me: "BOOKING." (clearly and neutrally)
It: "You have selected 'information'. Is that correct?"
Me: "NO."
It: "You have selected 'yes'."
Me: "Noooooooooooo..."
It: "For information about show times, say 'times'. For information about show costs, say 'costs'. For venue information, say 'venue'. To go back at any time, say 'back'."
Me: "Back back back back back" (channeling my inner chicken)
It: "You have selected 'times'. Is that correct?"
Me: "Why do you hate me?"
It: "You have selected 'yes.'"

My DH tried calling Fandango at one point, to see what times a movie was available (Internet was down).  I think the movie we wanted to see was "Hero".  Some short, sweet title like that, anyway.  I nearly died laughing when his side went:
Him: Hero. *pause* HE-ro. *pause* HERO. *pause* Heeeee-ro. *pause* He-RO.

I took the phone away and the automated system was still wanting to know what movie we wanted to know about.  I was breathless from laughing so hard, and still giggling a little bit.  I said, "Hero!" and the system said, "You have selected Hero.  To find movie times, please press..." and we were able to finish winding through the tree.  DH has pretty much sworn off phone trees because of this.  I just wish I could get my own company's phone tree to like me!

LOL!!!!! That would make for great comic strip fodder!

Try this site:  http://gethuman.com/

Some may think this is a first-world problem, but yesterday I bought fruit to share at a free outdoor concert.  It was moved indoors and we could not bring in food.  I ended up handing a handful of fresh lychees to each of the other attendees in my group as we were leaving.

When my boss nitpicks and fixates on irrelevant things. I did a summary of a doc withdrawing a petition. Actually two, filed a month apart. i also spelled out certain things about the summary, that i know he'd ask about because deity forbid he actually LOOK at the document, since he's also lazy.

so he comes back with "why did they file 2 within a month of each other?" Mind you, that isn't at all important to the summary. which simply says "x withdrew their peititons seeking y" But really? I don't WORK for this company, so I coudn't begin to tell you WHY they filed two separate requests, seeking review of the same issue.

the funny thing is, once i point something out to him, showing i am "right" he never says another word about it.

I know people don't mean it as a criticism but every now and then I'd love to hear a "you're pretty/lovely/etc." anything but "cute". Or at least not hear it as much.  DH is the one who uses it the most.

"How do I look?"
"Cute'

Substitute "nice" and you have my DH.  He can and will be specific if I happen to wear something he doesn't like or think is flattering, but I can wear anything from date-night outfit to dressy business outfit to wedding dress and all I get is "You look nice."  Oh, that's *if* I get a compliment, which is only in response to me asking how I look.  Unprompted, I get nothing.

Also, being short-waisted and busty is particularly difficult in summer, what with all the maxi dresses or wisps of clothing in style now.  Being short-waisted, busty, and with an already significant baby bump?  My choices now tend to be: look like a Cro Magnon fertility goddess or a shapeless blob.
