It drives me CRAZY when people ask me something like 'Can you tell me where the toilets are?' Yes, I CAN tell you. Whether I WILL is a different question. I have no idea why this annoys me so much as, in context, they're pretty much the same question.
What also annoys me to a slightly greater degree is when, at work, clearly working (say, behind the bar in uniform pulling a pint) someone asks me 'Do you know where the toilets are?' No, I have no idea, I just work here
. Again, minor, but incredibly, INCREDIBLY irritating to me. Maybe partly because there is a reasonably obvious sign people have to walk past to get to me at the bar to ask their question, and despite said sign, I get asked that question what feels like a thousand times a day. One day I'm going to crack and give someone a very sarcastic answer and then probably get into trouble. (I think maybe it might be time to start looking for a new job.
And add me to the people who hate it when someone says or types 'I could care less.' Even if there's a particular way to say it that gets your point across, to me, it's just WRONG and makes my hackles rise every time. And when someone does something 'by purpose'. NO, you do something ON purpose, or BY accident, or even 'with purpose', or purposefully, or in a purposeful manner. Just not by purpose. (Again with the hackles.) And there are others that really irritate me, but I'm going to stop now or I shall annoy myself
(It also slightly annoys me just how much I let these really quite minor things annoy me, as I'm aware they don't matter really, but that's a vicious cycle and we won't go there.)
