"My weight is not up for discussion"

(1/5) > >>

MissRose:
I had to use that on my mother recently when she decided to be a royal pain about my weight.

Yes, I am overweight.

Yes, I am trying to shift a few pounds.  Yes, I am trying to modify my eating habits. Yes, I am trying to get into a routine to walk 10 - 15 minutes a day minimum.  But I will not tell those things to my mother.

I did tell her after she said if you have lost any weight and I can't tell, "My weight is not up for discussion"

This is coming from a woman who has never been fat/overweight a day in her life.

Diane AKA Traska:
MissRose, I ask this only because you say you actually are trying to shift your weight (as I am)...

Do you "drink" empty calories?  That is, iced tea, soda, anything with sugar or HFCS?  The reason I ask is that most liquids we ingest, our bodies don't recognize as caloric.  They don't fill us up, so they're calories that basically don't count toward our daily allowance.

I've dropped at least twenty pounds since I stopped drinking sugar drinks and switched to diet soda, and then to iced tea with a Sucralose sweetener (I don't like Aspartame).  Not to proselytize, just a lot of people don't realize this.

To the main topic, though... good on you for telling her that.  =)  I wish I'd been that firm with Mom when she was still around.  She actually got my doctor to badger me about my weight when I was a teen.  Funny, I don't go to the doctor that often as an adult.  I wonder why.

MissRose:
I drink diet drinks, and don't drink regular ones as to me they taste differently & too sweet for me.

Yesterday, my mother wanted to know how much I weigh, I said I am not telling you and even if I knew my exact number I wouldn't tell you as you will hold it against me.  Then she went on to say do you want to know how much your nephew weighs as he's nearly 11 years and a bit husky, and I said no its not my business.

phoenix:
Good for you!  Even someone offering to help you change your habits wouldn't need to know the actual figure.  And good luck shifting your habits, by the way.  It's always hardest deflecting rudeness like this when you are trying, since it's a long process and is easy to get discouraged.

Azrail:
{{{{{HUGS}}}}} I know it's annoying when people start asking you questions and giving you unwanted advice.

Here's to you making your changes on your own time, if and when you want to, your own way. You are beautiful no matter what size you are or what people tell you.
