"My weight is not up for discussion"

MissRose:
My mother is queen of giving unwanted advice to any family member  ::)

I am glad my friends do not care that I am not a size 6.  They like the fact I am a good and kind person, and no matter what my size ends up being, that my interior beauty will always be there.

Here's to you making your changes on your own time, if and when you want to, your own way. You are beautiful no matter what size you are or what people tell you.

I can't tell you how many times I've been discouraged and lost will power to change my habits.  Its a daily thing to try to change the way I eat, drink, and exercise.

My mother has never been overweight in her life, and claims because she had to modify her eating habits due to a cholestral issue that she understands.  People cant see bad cholestral numbers, they can see that a person is heavy.  I'd trade being fat for having to take a cholestral pill thing & cutting down on cheese & other similar foods first.

Good on you.

I think that one of the worst things you can do if someone is trying to lose weight is to badger them about it. It can take time to get results for some people and wanting constant updates from them can reinforce the idea that it's not working and make them give up.

Power to you OP, and good luck!

Mothers.  You can't win with them, never will.

I am around 5' 7'', 5' 8'' ish, 150 pounds, the heaviest I have ever been.  I know I could stand to lose 20 pounds to get back to my 18-year old weight, but considering I am 45 years old I don't think I am at an unhealthy weight.  I don't gain or drop quickly, it took me 20 years to gain this 20 pounds.

My mother, on the other hand, has been 40-60 pounds overweight since I was a child.  She was recently diagnosed diabetic and went on a strict diet.  I know she cheats on it sometimes but she has lost somewhere between 10 - 15 pounds.

So, when I visit for breakfast, and am eating my bowl of unprocessed oatmeal while she is eating her boxed, processed cereal, she gives me dieting advice.  I just nod and go "hm".

((((((((((hugs))))))))))))  My mom's the same.  I think you handled it perfectly!

Do you "drink" empty calories?  That is, iced tea, soda, anything with sugar or HFCS?  The reason I ask is that most liquids we ingest, our bodies don't recognize as caloric.  They don't fill us up, so they're calories that basically don't count toward our daily allowance.

I've dropped at least twenty pounds since I stopped drinking sugar drinks and switched to diet soda, and then to iced tea with a Sucralose sweetener (I don't like Aspartame).  Not to proselytize, just a lot of people don't realize this.

I don't think the OP was actually asking for diet advice.
