Help... quick, please?
« on: December 22, 2006, 11:46:25 AM »
My mom got tickets to go see Bob Seger tonight.  But, she got sick this week after she got the tickets.  Now, my mom and stepdad have asked if I'd be willing to go with him to the concert.  If I say no, he won't go at all and they'll ask the person who gave them the tickets to find someone else.  But, then I'm going to feel guilty and selfish for not going for him.  At the same time, I bowl Friday nights and this seems like really short notice to tell them that I'm not going to be there.  Not to mention the fact that I'll still have to pay for bowling.  Also, Gran and I had planned on doing our Christmas baking tonight after I got home from bowling, so if I go to the concert I'm going to mess that up too.  Any ideas?  Suggestions?

It's Bob Seger...GO!!!! Heck, give him my number and I'll go with him!
I know it's short notice, but this is kind of a special occasion and you'll probably have a lot of fun. Maybe you can go to Granny's Saturday morning or something.
I mean, if you really don't want to go, don't. No one can make you. But I think that if you and stepdad get along you'll have a really good time and be glad that you went.
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

I live with Granny.  And I know I'm nuts.  Bob Seger is awesome and he's in the Detroit area and who knows when he'll be around again......  I just can't figure out which one is the lesser of two evils.  And I'm slightly afraid of ruining it for my stepdad anyway because I'm just not that big of a Seger fan.  Although, when he did that song with 3 Doors Down I was all over it.  Thanks for the advice.

ETA: Auntie, you are a hero, because if I could get you here to go with my stepdad I'd do it in a heartbeat.  I'm just not that excited by Seger.  I know he's great and all, but I'm a bit young for the crowd I'd expect to be there.  So, I'm trying to talk my uncle into going with him, if my mom hasn't given up the tickets yet.  Then it's a win/win.

Its okay, You stay home and I'll go!   I ADORE Bob Seger and would just love to see him in concert. I'd even put aside my fear of crowds for that opportunity.

Seriously though, I'd go,  it sounds like a lot of fun!

My suggestion is... if you want to see Bob Seger, you MUST GO! regardless of other obligations or semi-plans.  But if you don't wan tot see him ,then tell your parents you can't cancel bowling at the last minute.

I don't know a lot about bowling, but I imagine it's like any other team sport where sometimes someone can't make it to a game. It's not devastating and you make do with the people who are there. no good reason to miss a concert, IMO.

Ad for baking cookies with gran, I am assuming you can do this another time this weekend?

Family Christmas is tomorrow, so I doubt we'd find time.

You and Auntie are both right.  If I wanted to go, I'd go.  It wouldn't be a dilemma.  Just needed someone to put it in perspective I guess.  One of the reasons I love this board and the people on it.  THANKS!

Just an FYI... we found someone else who can and will go with my stepdad to the concert.  Soooo YAY!  Everyone can be happy.  And I was actually able to explain to my mom that I didn't mean to be wishy washy.  She understood completely.  In fact, she sounded better than yesterday.  I'm thinking if it was someone more her speed than stepdad's, she'd have gone anyway.  So, she probably knows better than I can explain how I was feeling.  All's well that ends well.  Thanks again.  I can't tell you how many times just putting things in writing helps me make a decision.
