News: "Manners are the happy ways of doing things; each one a stroke of genius or of love, now repeated and hardened into usage, they form at last a rich varnish, with which the routine of life is washed, and its details adorned. If they are superficial, so are the dew-drops which give such a depth to the morning meadows."  - Ralph Waldo Emerson, "The Conduct of Life"

And it feels good.

Today my Bf's mum rang and asked me if this weekend was "our girlie weekend." I said "No I am afraid not I have so much work to do but I will ring you and arrange to meet you when I can."
Mum: but you are a student you don't know what work is honey.
Me: I am learning I have a ton and a half of stuff to get through and no time at all. Deadlines are on top of me. I really can't see you this weekend.
Mum: You just don't want to be seen with an old woman!
Me: That is not true. I really do enjoy spending time with you but as far as I can see the next few weekends are just crammed with work, college and other commitments.
Mum:Fine whenever you want to be seen with me again ring me. Bye.

I am a little hurt by her actions but she is a strange fish. I said no and I feel good. I am not going to let her sulk upset me into canceling plans. BF is proud of me to. He asked was I trying out saying no in front of the mirror!

School isn't work? Huh

News to me.  News to everyone else in my Bachelor's program, too.

Yeah, Gish, too. I barely see him anymore he has so much homework and he isn't even on a full course load!

Little Jo, you rocked it.

I've done some things that I'm not too proud of...
I've never left you, a deaf ear for longing.
Some hearts are gallows, I'm not here for hangin' around.

News to me too. I was a LOT busier when studying for my Backelor's and Master's than I've ever been both before and since.

I'm in a PhD program and I teach undergrads.  It annoys me to no end when people thing that students don't have work.  I know what I do and I know what undergrads do because I'm partly responsible for assigning that work!   Grin  It just smacks of anti-intellectualism.
