Uh oh. Am I one of the recet culprits, jimithing? I started a recent thread on picking people up from the airport that wasn't really etiquette centric but more a survey of how many people were willing to do it. Perhaps that wasn't a legit topic. Apologies if so.

Just because you're disappointed in me doesn't mean I did anything wrong.

When it comes to asking for favors, I think the rude vs annoying makes for a decent topic. Some people feel it is fine to ask for anything as long as you accept no, some feel there is a line that you can't cross as far as how reasonable it is to ask someone for something. So whether it is rude or not to ask someone to do a particular thing can make for an honest discussion and not just a rant.

The rude v annoying is a definite grey area and often the poster may be confused as to how he or she feels about a topic for instance taking the snoring obviously a person snoring is not being rude but on a long flight would it be rude to wake them because it was fraying my nerves?
I think however our mods do an excellent job of policing the grey area while giving plenty of leeway for posters to discuss and debate the issue.
Each thread is individual as the poster and what may be seen as mildly annoying by A could be a lot more to B because of cultural or regional issues (and I am not even going to mention cash bars!)

I think when it is a vent or where the thread has gone completely askew our mods are very quick to either redirect or halt the argument.

Honestly, I can't even think of the thread you started!! Like I said, it really isn't one thread or any one poster. I've just seen several threads recently where the person says they know it's not rude, but is anyone else annoyed but this, kind of thing.

I won't mention the thread I started only to avoid even more discussion about the topic, but my posts were exactly as you describe.  They read more ranty than "etiquetty."  I hadn't realized until now.  So, thank you for the heads-up.   :)
