More Miss USA...

I thought this was hilarious, since Tara Conner has been in the news lately. I think I know more about her than I ever cared to.

She was on the NBC game show "Identity". It's a game show where you have to guess an aspect of a total stranger just by looking at them. The "identities" range from profession, hobbies, awards (Olympic gold medalist, etc.), to things like "Has 5 kids" or "Virgin" (these two were options in this particular episode).

Anyway, she's onstage in only a bikini, but she actually gets passed over for the Miss USA guess. The "guesser" has lifelines a la "Millionaire," so one of them is to ask a panel of experts (psychologists, profilers, etc.) for their opinion on one of the identities. The guesser asked them who they thought the virgin was. Two of the three experts pointed out two of the "plainest", i.e. they weren't overly dressed up nor were they slightly obvious as to their identity. The third points to Tara and says, "I think it's her."

If you saw the episode, his logic is kind of clear. He was going on reverse psychology. Pick the person that is projecting the most sexualized image. She's wearing a bikini! There were two other women who had fairly formal outfits, so they could have been associated with a pageant identity.

They follow the third expert's choice with a closeup on Tara and the only way to describe the look on her face is "WHAAAAT?!" She really looked annoyed/vaguely insulted that the guy thought she was the virgin! She might have been annoyed that no one recognized her, but I just read the look on her face as, "What?! How dare he think I'm a virgin!"

My point is... it's kind of crass to advertise ANYONE'S sexual experience, or lack thereof, and it's just as crass to give the impression that you're insulted that anyone could think that you're a virgin. Just keep it to yourself! No one cares! Well... at least I hope no one cares. Someone tell her that the Trumpian method of TMI is not the way to go.

Clara Bow:
Rather be thought of as a virgin than a whore...or a flaming alcoholic...

Cyndi:
Miss USA sounds like a rich priss to me anyway. Something goes wrong, she just runs whining to daddy.

People always act shocked when I tell them I'm a virgin at 26. It's like whaaaat? I'm not shy about volunteering the info because I'm proud to be one. I think it's sad girls think they're hot when they have sex at 13. I was still in Jr. High when I was 13! I'm just waiting for the right person because if I get that lucky, I want to be with a husband and I want it to be out of love, not for a ten second thrill.

Based on what you describe, I think that the producers' behavior was far worse than Tara's behavior because they are the ones who even included "virgin" as a category.  Had the contestant guessed accurately who the virgin was, the viewers would have still ended up with TMI.

If you can stand to hear more about the current Miss USA, TMZ has footage of Tara commenting on whether or not pop stars are good role models for young people.  Here is the link: http://www.tmz.com/2006/12/15/tara-ripped-edgy-stars-then-became-one/.

IndianInlaw:
How could they even verify that?
