Etiquette School is in session! > "So kind of you to take an interest."
Stressed out enough...
(1/1)
McCutieBelle:
I used this line today and let it go in one ear and out the other and I feel better! A well meaning relative who is older and settled in her career and what not I THINK was trying to help, but it just was not the time.
I got bombarded with "well you don't have an internship now, maybe you won't get to work in Theatre, maybe you have to be a receptionist at a medical place, you would be good at that, what about when you get married, you will be working until your 80, you need A job, who cares about being happy, you need insurance, why aren't you on your mom's insurance anymore (well I am 29... that is why), you have to get a house, you need equity and retirement, you need a plan B, it is nice to have dreams but be logical..."
OY! I just found out my uncle died this morning, I moved 8 hours away... I am stressed as it is and I know personally what I need to know, my strengths and weaknesses and I know what jobs I can and cannot do. I thanked her for her concern and let her know I had several plans and I was quite happy with them and I would do what I needed to do to succeed. Was that a good thing to do?
Ms_Shell:
I actually think that was a perfect response. Congratulations on being polite, yet assertive (easier said than done many times, I know!)
