There is, for some reason, an urban legend that doctors take out tonsils "at the drop of a hat." At least, some other doctors must do it. I've never run into such doctors myself.
Three months is nothing. I went for three years with chronic tonsillitis as a child. When, finally convinced by my recurrent infections all over my body, they removed them, they discovered it was a much trickier operation than they expected, due to multiple abscesses. I honestly believe that this affected my health, and probably my social development, for the rest of my life.
