I would never go back to TGIFriday's. I had stopped going there years ago due to a bad experience. My best friend and I made the mistake of giving them a second chance the other night. First of all, the hostess asked if a table was okay. We said yes, but then noticed some empty booths with tvs. We asked for those and she fumbled for an excuse why we couldn't ("Um, those are reserved for two other...*long pause, can't think of a word*...later tonight.") One booth stayed full of trash and dirty plates all night, no customers filling it; she later asked random customers if a booth would be okay and oh golly, we have one available over here.
The waiter she sent over took a really long time arriving at our table. I had showed the waiter my Friday's Stripes rewards card when he first came to our table. I said "I'm not sure what rewards are on it." He told me "I can't check that for you. That's not something I can do here. But I can give you free chips and salsa." I accepted the offer. The chips were stale and flavorless. The salsa was disgusting. Even the salsa packets you get in Lunchables tasted better than the watery, oddly flavored salsa he brought.
My friend and I ordered wings, burgers, a pecan crusted chicken salad, drinks and whiskey cake. The waiter took a really long time bringing back the drinks. He brought my friend's Coke out and told me "Your's will be out in a bit. It takes a while to prepare." Apparently putting ice + flavored syrup in a blender requires a trek to a glacier for ice and a PhD in physics or something, because this guy took forever bringing it back. And then the drink didn't even have much cherry flavor as the menu promised. Although my refill drink later tasted perfectly fine. I had to ask for a refill, but my friend did not. The waiter made sure his drink was full. Which was odd, since the waiter had repeatedly made a big deal about "If you order the cherry drink x-way, it doesn't come with free refills. If you order it y-way, it's unlimited refills. Y-way is a better deal and a better price."
The waiter brought out my friend's wings. We sat forever waiting for my food. Finally the burger and the salad were brought out. My salad had no dressing cup, so I asked the waiter for a side of it. He assured me "Oh, the dressing is all on the bottom of the salad. But I can bring you more, if you really want some."
While he was gone, I noticed my salad was absolutely coated in celery slices. I took all the celery out of the salad. I took a bite of chicken. It tasted nothing like the pecan salad Friday's used to serve. The coating was mushy, had too many herb flavors and had absorbed the celery flavor. My friend was disgusted by the taste of it, too. When the waiter came back with my dressing (apparently he went to France for the ingredients), I explained the problem. I asked him to replace the salad with cheesesticks. You would think cheesesticks are fairly goof-proof, but nope. I received a plate of very bland, not terribly tasty cheesesticks. My friend was surprised by how poor they tasted, even for cheesesticks. Plus the marinara dipping sauce was even worse than the salsa
His own french fries were mushy, undercooked and had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp for a long time. His burger had some not very crisp onion pieces that somehow made the burger dry. Also, they randomly added pickles to the bottom of the sandwich.
My cake and a scoop of ice cream arrived with two spoons "in case you want to share." The cake was covered in nuts, so I said "Oh, he can't have any. He's allergic to nuts." The waiter told him "You don't know what you're missing." I said "If his throat closes up from an allergic reaction, he'll certainly miss a lot." The cake was good. My only gripe is that the bottom of the cake was so drenched in sweet, grainy, liquidy syrup / sauce that I couldn't finish it. The sauce made the bottom half dissolve from being too soggy. Which meant I wasted a huge amount of the dessert.
We certainly had sticker shock when the bills arrived. Wow, the prices were high (okay, that part was our fault for not paying closer attention on the menu
). And the service was ridiculously slow for a place that was mostly empty. The only good thing I can say is that the waiter ran outside to find us after we left, because my friend had left his phone at the table. Other than that, sorry, not going back to Friday's ever again.
