I'm putting this here because I think the nerds might be interested.

There's a rocket being launched in half a hour (so when you Americans wake up, it will be in space) by a company called SpaceX. It's being launched in Cape Canaveral. They're taking a payload to the International Space Station.

I only mention it because my friend's brother works for the company who built the rocket. He is at Flight Control right now. He has a PhD in robotics.

This is rocket science, folks. Very very cool

Ahem, pardon my nerdiness, but since this is a nerdy thread...

Is he at Mission Control Center (MCC in Houston) or Launch Control Center (LCC in Cape Canaveral)? Or is he at SpaceX's control center?

RocketScientist (who works at NASA)  ;)

...Mr. Thipu buys a Periodic Table shower curtain.  It does lighten the bathroom and comes in handy on hard crosswords.

It was a bit more disturbing when we unearthed an old Beagle Brothers 'Peeks and Pokes' chart and seriously considered having it framed a a decoration for the living room.

... you are an enthusiastic listener to a weekly podcast called The History of Rome. The pod cast covered the entire roman history, from Romulus and Remus all the way to Romulus Augustulus, the last emperor. It is completed now, but the entire project took around 4 years. The way the guy tells it is great: informative without getting bogged down in details (although he is a little too fond of military history for my taste, his enthusiastic description of strategy wins me over every time) and he has a nice sense of humour (he even makes a few Star Wars jokes, completely deadpan).

You are only young once. After that you have to think up some other excuse.

I missed it, too. I forgot it was Geek Pride Day until my bro texted me to not forget my towel.  :-[ The shame, i will share it with you.
I wore an Albert Einstein t-shirt to work today in celebration, and i talked to someone new because she was wearing a super cool quidditch shirt.
It's alright, man. I'm only bleeding, man. Stay hungry, stay free, and do the best you can.

You create a plan in MS Project for your summer's gardening, complete with materials specs, work breakdown structure, and deliverable dates.
Let's roll. (And you can't scare me; I've had teenagers.)

You buy tickets to the ST:TNG 25th anniversary showing of Ep. 106 “Where No One Has Gone Before” and Ep. 114 “Datalore” digitally remastered for the big screen. I am so excited. Date night!

This is awesome.  I would hope that when I have a house with a garden, I am this organized and good at planning ahead.

Do you update on a yearly basis and track performance from year to year?
Talk nerdy to me.

It is cloudy where you live, so you drive 4 hours west so that you don't miss the transit of Venus.  We also drove to NM to see the eclipse. :)
