be careful what you wish for!!!!
« on: December 24, 2006, 08:48:11 PM »
okay, we all know how stressful the last week before Christmas is.  i've been saying for years that by gollygosh i was gonna be done with all preparations by December 23rd!!!!! i wasn't gonna make myself crazy and fall into bed exhausted on the 24th, and be too tired to enjoy the day with my family (especially since the kids now have their own homes)!  no sirree bob, not doing that ANYMORE!

so this year i accomplished this much sought-after feat.  i.was.done. on the 23rd.  done. complete. finito.  just gotta cook Christmas dinner tomorrow with the help of my DD and FSIL the chef.  sounds great, what a deal!  right? RIGHT?  WRONG!

i have been so BORED today!  there was nothing that i had to do!  not a darned thing, not even a trip to the grocery store!  I HATE IT!!!!!  it doesn't even feel like Christmas!   :o

for years i set up this goal for myself.  i met it.  i hate it.  so be careful what you wish for, it just might really stink!  what's worse, is that every time i'd say i was gonna do this, hubster would tell me how much i'd hate it.  so not only am i bored out of my mind, hubster was right, and that's just so galling!  harumph..... ;)

We were done shopping, didn't really need anything else - but DH and oldest DD went on a last minute Wal-Mart expedition! Only thing, they got there and Wal-Mart had just closed at 6 PM! So they went to the Walgreen's drug store to pick up some Miracle Whip and eggs for me, then stopped by K-Mart to get some hand weights for older DD,  a last-minute present DH wanted to get for her, and some thread for me so I can hem a pair of pants for her.
DH and I just got back from walking the dogs and looking at the candles that all the neighborhood puts alongside the road in our subdivision on Christmas Eve.
Hope you have a great day with your kids!

I achieved this goal a long time ago and it allows me to make myself a great pot of tea, take my time getting dressed for visiting, and pet and cuddle my cats.

Quote:  okay, we all know how stressful the last week before Christmas is.  i've been saying for years that by gollygosh i was gonna be done with all preparations by December 23rd!!!!!

I always end up spending the entire Christmas eve day wrapping gifts because I have six kids and eleven grandkids and get lots of little fun, inexpensive things.  I end up really stressed and irritable, snarling at the invisible tape, which really has become invisible and has crawled under the growing shards of paper, trying to peel the little paper thing off of that little self adhesive tab on the back of bows, losing the gift tags and then finding them but tearing the one I want to use to shreds while trying to remove it from the sheet, poking a hole in a wrapped gift because I bought cheap wrapping paper that explodes if you look at it, dropping the pen which then rolls under the chair and disappears in the land of DustBunnies.  None of that for me, this year...I was all done wrapping on December 22, and it was a pleasant experience, even though all of the above happened even on the 22nd.  When I finished wrapping, I gave away the remaining paper and tags (the tape had already permanently disappeared.  Now I know why they say Christmas is a magical time of year) just to make sure I wasn't overcome by some weird uncontrollable elf attack urging me to tear apart and rewrap gifts on the 24th.  Well Santa Claus was smiling on me, or was it a smirk?  I found that I needed to wrap four more gifts on the 24th and had no paper, no tape and no tags.  Maybe next year I'll just put it off until the 24th.

I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.

I'm really bad about procrastinating on my wrapping. I am always finished shopping on Black Friday (a fun thing I would never do any other day of the year), but most of my gifts were still riding in the trunk of my car unwrapped until yestday, when my adult DD finally took over and did it for me.

i'm going to work on this relaxation thing for next year.  this year the inaction was just too much of a shock to the system.  but i promise i'll practice tranquility next year!

actually, next year we probably will have Christmas the weekend before as both children will be with the in-laws.  so we'll probably spend Christmas day taking down the tree!!!
