My 11 year nephew enjoys Lego sets (with Star Wars theme) and Star Wars themed items.

He also likes military stuff too but a few of his relatives are not happy with that fascination for various reasons.

Lego, yes.  Walkie-talkies, not so much.  My eldest was doing age 16+ Legos when he was 11 or so (think "Cafe Corner" or others in that series.)  The boys had toy walkie-talkies when they were 7 or so and got tired of them very quickly.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bow lines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
