I may have posted this upthread but the word filter has forced me to be more careful about my language here.  I can't stand a lot of the substitutions.  I edited a post where what I had originally written was replaced by "Oh my goodness gracious me", which is so not how I write or speak.

It did that to me once (same replacement) but I don't think I bothered to change it.

Sometimes I just use the British spelling for certain words because the filter doesn't catch those.  ;D

I don't like the substitutions either, so I make sure they don't show up in my posts.

I find it amusing when someone writes something and in the middle of their post is a complete non-sequitur. It's almost like solving a mystery, figuring out what the poster meant to write as opposed to what came out after the filter was through with it.

My favourite sub, though, is the one you get if you write "Biblical word for donkey" with an 'at' sign and two dollar signs, it comes out "yoohoo! Moderators!  Ban me now!" Hee hee.  ;D  I also like "ooo I tried to get around the filter with a nasty word" but I can't remember what that one is a sub for.

It is the same word, but different symbols. I find it very amusing that the same word has different substitutions depending on what symbol you type. ;D

In this case, it's because the poster most likely knows better and is trying very hard to circumvent the filters.

I just love the book threads, because we always end up discussing either Herman Melville's classic Moby Wingydingy or that great Science Fiction author, Philip K. Wingadingy.  ;)

I would love to see a few rustic "Consarnit!"s or "Jumpin' Jehosaphat!"s myself.  Great words that don't get nearly enough use anymore.  Not to mention the classic Fred Flintstone "Rassafrassin'..."

I'd settle for a few random punctuation marks to replace curse words like in the comics.  :D

I think Fred Flintstone said "fricken fracken..." but it's been a long time since the last time I saw Fred.

Admittedly the forum filter can lead to some interesting results- like the recipie where I said "wingadingdingy the pastry all over with a fork"

Since I watch my language, I'm not familiar with all the substitutions.  I must admit, I enjoy them and find them clever, along with the other terms, such as "scrabble" and "bacon fed knave."  I know, gives bacon a bad rap, but I love the way it sounds in my head with clenched jaw.  As for the "oh my goodness, goodness gracious me," that is how I talk  :-[  When I use that 3 letter abbreviation, I use it to mean "Oh My Goodness," not the other phrase anyway.

One of my favorite ehell euphemisms was "... hit him in the scrabble tiles." >:D

The one that just about put me on the floor laughing was the book discussion about wingadingdingy Francis.  I had to read that one out loud to Mr. Sirius.

If this is an SS suggestion, I'm fine with a disregard (I know not everyone agrees with everything).   I would really like to see the word machine filter out the unpleasant phrase "brain fart"- I think it is more distasteful and offensive than numerous of the words/phrases that are filtered. Crass. Now I want 'brain bleach'.
