Bridal shop goes up in flames; social media to the rescue
« on: November 18, 2010, 02:55:36 PM »
Executive summary: Chicago bridal shop burned; Sarah Evans, a Chicago publicist, started a twitter campaign that morphed into an online spreadsheet for people to offer the loan of gowns to those whose dresses burned.  A dozen dresses were offered in the first 15 minutes; I count 145 now.

Wow, I'm really blown away by how wonderful that is.

Up to 250 dresses now.  And not just wedding dresses; I saw MOB and flower girl dresses as well.  :)

Go Chicago!  I think Eva's (the shop that burned down) is a pretty big, well known salon, too, which means that a LOT of brides would be out of luck if it wasn't for this happening.

It's up to something like 350 now.  I'm going to have to go home and see if mine's in any condition to be loaned out.  If not, I have a bridesmaid dress that is (heck, I wouldn't even ask for that one back!).
