Etiquette School is in session! > "Have you tried the bean dip?"
The wrong bean dip
MsMarjorie:
Some years ago my FIL promised my DH & I a set amount of money for our wedding. We were very thankful for the offer and included the money in our budget. Some days later we went over to my FILs house to collect the money.
When we got there FIL told us that he could no longer afford to give us any money. He must have noticed the shocked/upset expressions on our faces (we weren't quick enough to disguise them) and decided to look for a bowl of bean dip. He diverted our attention by showing us the new state of the art television set he had purchased the day before.
Nellop:
Ouch!
That's all I realy have to say on the matter... I'd like to say something exceedingly witty, but I'm speechless...
Did... did he realise what he'd done?
gramma dishes:
"OH! FIL!!! How wonderfully kind of you to give us this magnificent state of the art TV for our wedding gift!!! We certainly didn't expect something this extravagant. You're so generous and thoughtful!" >:D
RedRuby:
Oh, no! That reminds me of the time a friend told me she couldn't afford to come to my wedding then showed me the giant diamond ring she'd bought herself that day.
Outdoor Girl:
A friend of mine's girlfriend bought herself an expensive diamond ring because she could and she wanted it. Totally fine.
A couple of months later, she was buying a house. And lamented that she wished she had just a little more money to put down. Almost the exact amount the ring had cost...
My friend couldn't resist making a comment along the lines of 'You're wearing it!'
