I Got a Chainsaw...
« on: December 26, 2006, 09:26:38 AM »
And I love it.

For your holiday enjoyment, what gift have you received (for any occasion, not just Christmas) that would generally seem odd to the general public at large.

Like, for example, my chainsaw.  It's right up there with the 150-piece ratchet set I received years ago.  Someone asked me what I received for Christmas and I told them about the ratchet set.  She looked at me for a minute and said, tenatively, "And you're happy with that?"

Of course I was (and still am - I still have it).  Of course, I'm the type of gal who loves her new chainsaw, too.

So - how about it ehellions?  How different are we?

I'm not sure that I'm different, but The Marine gave me a car charger for my cell phone and I am THRILLED with it. He was so nervous before I opened it. He said he didn't know how I would like it b/c it was a practical gift, lol.

I jumped up and down and gave him a HUGE hug and kiss. I really needed a car charger. He gave me other things too... a necklace, an ionic breeze (for my allergies), and some other stuff. I got a 20" TV from my parents to replace the one that went kaput last year. But my favorite gift? The car charger. I'm so easy, lol.

I've gotten some oddball things that made me happy over the years, but nothing compares to a gift my brother got years ago for Christmas.

My father was at a used/antiquarian bookstore when he found bound volumes of the 1850 census reports. The folks at the shop said nobody but nobody wanted it and made him a really cheap deal on the set.

On Christmas day we thought we were never going to get my brother to open any other packages. His wife actually threatened to open the rest of his gifts and divvy them up with me, but nothing could get his nose out of those books.

For years afterward, we all knew the phrase 'I got a book once' meant the 1850 census.

Behindbj, I am jealous of you!  I love power tools!  I would have asked for gas powered hedge clippers for Christmas this year, but since I won't be able to use them until Springtime, I knew it would just torture me to receive them so early, so I asked for something else.  I am TOTALLY going to request them for Valentine's Day, however.

Past favorites of mine (for Christmas) have included a cordless drill, table saw, router (and table) and power sander.  I am a strange combination of girly girl and Tool Time girl!

I do make awesome handmade picture frames.  If only I had room for a proper glass cutting contraption, I might go into business!

Oooh, I got a DS Lite for Christmas! I LOVE IT!!! One of the weirdest things I ever received was a make-up kit this Christmas. Make-up kits are nice. But this one was geared toward pre-teen girls, lol. It had a sketch pad with a face drawn on it and colored pencils so that you could practice what colors you're going to put where, first. And then it had the gaudiest, glitteriest, pre-teen-est makeup I swear I've ever seen. It was from my uncle and his girlfriend, who orders EVERYTHING from either QVC or Home Shopping Network. Last year I got a really beautiful tanzanite ring. But this awful makeup set...man! I am going to save it and re-gift it to my BF's little sister for her birthday or next Christmas, she'll be 13 and just starting to wear makeup.

Oh, and I also received, from someone else, a Solid Perfume Stick. It was bright purple, glittery, and raspberry-scented. Not a nice raspberry, either, a glaringly overscented scent beloning, again, to the preteen crowd. And besides...what the h3ll do you do with a PURPLE perfume stick?? It goes on PURPLE...do I draw little designs on my neck? Write my boyfriend's name on the inside of my wrist? Or just scribble the nasty stuff on everywhere?

My gifts are usually pretty mundane, but my neighbor gave his wife a pistol.

It's exactly what she asked for.  I say kudos to both of them!

Hee, I'm 31, and between my fiance and I, we have 17 console and portable systems in the house!  XD  No new systems for Christmas, but we gave each other like 12 DS games alone.  I love my DS!

Last year, I got a drimmel (sp?) tool set from my Dad and a stun gun from my BIL.  I loved them both!  When I got back to work after the holidays and relayed this to my coworkers, they looked at me kinda funny (maybe cause I'm a woman?) but then I explained that as an only child, I spent the majority of my time woodworking with my Dad, and the stun gun was practical as I had been robbed 2 Christmases before that one.  Then, it seemed to make more sense to them.

As to the DS, I am 27, and I got Final Fantasy 12 this year, along with the Bradygames guide for it.  So this doesn't seem odd to me.
I love my DH!   ;D

I got a "Tornado Terror" DVD for Christmas, featuring fantastic footage of the  1999 F5 tornado that flattened Oklahoma City.

I'm weird. So sue me.  ;)

My fiance are like that. Our next new purchase will be a Wii. I have a bunch of ds games and got a gift card for the game store to get more.

My kids got me exactly what I wanted; hardwood wooden spoons.

Now, the common-or-garden wooden spoons you can buy in the supermarket for $2 are made of pine and are nasty.  They go all splintery and rough and do not feel nice in your hand when you use them.  They stain and crack and are just no fun at all.

My new, (very expensive) hardwood wooden spoons are just beautiful.  They are smooooooooooth.  They feel lovely and silky.  They are a pleasure to hold and wash clean with barely a touch.  The more I use them, the smoother and lovelier they will become, and I will probably end up passing them onto my grandchildren like my Nana did.

They go wonderfully with my other Christmas presents; a new cutlery set and a double-boiler saucepan.  Can you tell I like to cook...

Changing the world...one Thank You note at a time.
