I got books.  a LOT of books.
I am thrilled.

(However, I'm not allowed to go through a Christmas without getting some jewelry.  So I got 6 pairs of earrings, 2 watches and 4 necklaces.  I may wear some of it...haven't figured out what I'll do w/ the rest.)

And as Mr. Dawbs is a WONDERFUL gift giver, he got me a satellite radio (I have a LONG commute), and then he got me blank journals.  Really nice blank journals.  With inscriptions on the inside saying things about how he knows that there is much inside my head that deserves a truly lovely place to be written down.
(had me tear up...which is probalby a nice thing :-)

Dragonball Z mangas. It's things only a fan of those can really understand, which my parents do. They were such simple things and yet I gave a "YESSSSSS!" shout when I opened the mangas.

My dad snuck out and got my mom the eight foot ladder she's been commenting about. He stood it up in the back yard so that when she opened the kitchen blinds, there it was. She was like "Oh!" and then threw a towel at my dad. It was cute :)

For your holiday enjoyment, what gift have you received (for any occasion, not just Christmas) that would generally seem odd to the general public at large.

Hmm. Several swords (not any particular occasion, 'just because' gifts), eight yards of burgundy velvet,  8 yards of raw silk, and a motorcycle :). Over the years, that is :).

I envy your chainsaw, my SIL has had several trees come down on her property, we're trying to find a chainsaw big enough to turn them into firewood :).

For my birthday I got a nintendo ds. That doesnt seem odd but I am a 25 year old women. I love my ds and the games I play with it. I already have a nice collection of games.

:) i am 33 and i carry my DS with me everywhere i go. I have even gotten friends in their 20s to play Pokemon with me. Hopefully my DS Lite that was supposed to be for my birthday will be here soon.

My house is another that is chock full of video games ... Mr. Goblin got the 360 himself but the X-Box was our gift to each other when that came out, and i have my beloved PS2 and one on deck for when it breaks.

One Xmas i asked for a cordless drill & got it. In my family that isn't too odd - my mom built our deck & has been known to put up drywall.

The subscription to Playboy was a little weird, i guess. I've renewed it every year, though.

OFF TOPIC:  Here's a trick for the PS2 when it breaks.....as long as it has never been opened or refurbished in any way, you can call SONY and if they cannot diagnose the problem over the phone (and it isn't waterlogged, etc) then you can ship it to them and they will fix it and ship it back for free.  I've had to do this twice with mine since the laser that reads the discs goes out from time to time.  I think it cost me around 13 bucks each time (counting insurance when shipping).

WoW! That is some great advice. Thanks Willow! I know the back-up is re-furbished; i only got it because it was super super cheap; but i think the main one is new(ish).

No problem hobgoblinish:

Lots of people I have talked to don't know about that policy.  I only found out about it by going through the SONY website in a panic because the darn thing was going crazy and I took a chance on their customer service.  It only took about 2 weeks to send it, fix it and get it back, and they were rally nice about it too.  Glad I could pass on the info!!   ;D

I got a liquid soap dispenser in the shape of a rhinovirus! (cold virus). If you don't believe they make such things, go to www.giantmicrobes.com It goes with the stuffed chlamydia and helicobacter pylori and others my DH gave me before!

My DH and oldest DD went out on Christmas Eve and found me a Chia Pet in the shape of the Tazmanian Devil cartoon character. LOVE my chia pet!

For our first Christmas together, DH gave me a wheelbarrow, which I had asked for. Love it!

O M G -  Those are too cool! One of my friends is a med student. I know what she is getting for her birthday :)

LOL - edited because the letters O M G when typed in a row automatically translated themselves to "Oh my goodness! Goodness gracious me!!" hee hee hee

My kids got me exactly what I wanted; hardwood wooden spoons.

Now, the common-or-garden wooden spoons you can buy in the supermarket for $2 are made of pine and are nasty.  They go all splintery and rough and do not feel nice in your hand when you use them.  They stain and crack and are just no fun at all.

My new, (very expensive) hardwood wooden spoons are just beautiful.  They are smooooooooooth.  They feel lovely and silky.  They are a pleasure to hold and wash clean with barely a touch.  The more I use them, the smoother and lovelier they will become, and I will probably end up passing them onto my grandchildren like my Nana did.

They go wonderfully with my other Christmas presents; a new cutlery set and a double-boiler saucepan.  Can you tell I like to cook...

I love the olive wood spoons...they're pricey but so nice, like buttah!
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

DH got a cordless drill from my Dad about fifteen years ago.  After *I* wore it out - he bought me another one on Fathers' Day (hey - that was when they were on sale).

Memorable gifts - Nancy Drew books (three of them) as a kid, a sewing kit (I still sew some forty years later), a gift certificate or two from a sewing store (MIL has no idea how much I loved going shopping the next week), Chanel #5 gift set with powder and SOAP as well as cologne - I love "layering" the fragrance, and a camera with film when the DD was born - the grandparents wanted LOTS of photos.  So we got LOTS of film for the new "instant" camera.

Memorable gifts from the other direction - a Spiroscope (colored pens and acrylic "gears" that let you draw endless loopy designs - on a year when there had already been THREE of them under the tree for the younger siblings - one small one at school exchange and two larger ones under the home tree and the OTHER grandparents' house).  A child's book when I was reading three or more "grades" above the rest of the kids in my school class - boring.......  Bath salts that gave me a rash when I tried using them - it took three days to stop itching...............I thought that one was a good gift until I started itching about ten minutes after I got out of the tub.

Let sleeping dragons be.......morning breath......need I say more?

My brother and I both got musical Christmas ornaments in our stockings.  He got a duck that quacks "Joy To The World," and I got a sheep that baa's "We Wish You A Merry Christmas."  Normally, since I'm a music major, I think things like this are an abomination (ditto people who program their cell phone ring tones to play excerpts of popular classical music that they probably couldn't even name), but the ornaments were just so cute, I couldn't help but laugh.
