Transparent background images in signatures?
« on: November 30, 2010, 11:37:57 PM »
I notice that pictures with transparent backgrounds don't display properly in my signature - is that something that can be tweaked on the admin end, possibly?

Thanks!

When I did a right-click and checked out properties on your signature image, it shows up as a jpg, not a gif.  As far as I know, you can't do transparent images with jpgs -- did you upload it as a jpg by accident?

Or did you upload it as a gif (or png, or any other format that allows transparency)?  If so, perhaps the forum software converts it somehow?

You can make transparent BG JPGs, in Photoshop anyway. That's why I was asking if it was the forum software.

Huh, I had no idea!  I guess my Photoshop skills are stuck in 2003  ;D

You might try it (or any random transparent gif/png) in another format just in case?  At least then you'll know whether it's the particular type of jpg Photoshop uses, or whether it's the forum software.

JPGs are standardized. But thanks for trying to help!

ETA: Seems like the forum software is OK with transparent BG GIFs, just not JPGs, so you were pretty much right. Thanks for giving me the advice that should have been obvious! ;D

No worries!  That's what asking is for...so other people can answer and we can go "d'oh, I should have thought of that!"  :D
