Bob Geldorf tells it like it is.

Put out your lamp, Diogenes, I have found an honest man.

Bob Geldorf confessed he thoroughly hates two of his own songs.

Geldorf, that made me laugh! He hates them, hmmm interesting. Well I think they're OK. I mean they aren't my favorite songs but I don't hate them either, they aren't bad. Although some of the actual singing on We Are The World isn't that great.

NICE!

I did really love when he was in the Boomtown Rats. I Don't Like Mondays is a fabulous song.

Pod. And yes, those 2 songs, in spite of the sentiment, weren't so great. 80's production, too many cooks in the kitchen, whatever you want to blame for them.

I have to agree with him about "Do They Know It's Christmas."  That is one awful song.

Try listening to the 2004 version... it makes the original sound like the best song on earth!

And there won't be snow in Africa this christmas time

Dude, I hate to break it to you, but in much of Africa it never snows period!

I think this song is defined as gluck. I'm glad he admitted it, but sorry he ever wrote it.

When I consider 'Roxanne', Mr. Geldorf has much to answer for.

I've contemplated doing a line-by-line deconstruction of the song and sending to the writer with everything that's wrong with it.  It's good to know I don't have to do that now, as even thinking about the tripe and drivel (not to mention plain geographical and cultural ignorance) gives me a headache.

I think someone else has already done it, but yeah. I remember hearing that line and thinking, "And this is a problem- why?"

Did anyone read the comments?  People are accusing Geldorf of saying this for publicity and claiming they've never heard the song before.  Have these people never been in a retail establishment at Christmas?  How is it possible that they've never heard it?

Well, he's entitled to his own opinion. Doubly so, since he wrote them. Personally, to me it's just not the holidays without "Do They Know It's Christmas", although that's more for the warm fuzzy memories of the Eighties it brings back.

"We Are the World", however, is a truly craptastic song. Bad then, even worse now.

Just so we're all clear on it, his name is Bob Geldof, not Bob Geldorf. ;)

I am not in the US, I don't go to malls and even so I have heard it (unfortunately).

I AM in the US, I don't go to malls between Thanksgiving and mid-January, I don't listen to stations that play music and I know this song well enough that I know have it going through my head!  Blargh!
