2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 egg
1/4 cup vegetable oil
3/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Combine dry ingredients (except sugar). Cream egg and sugar together. Add oil, milk & vanilla. Stir in dry ingredients and mix well.
Drop by the teaspoon into hot oil. Take out when golden brown and drain on paper towels for a minute. Roll in sugar.
These turn over by themselves. I used a "Fry Baby" and was able to do four at a time. The dough is pretty sticky. I used a scant teaspoon and used another spoon to push the dough off into the oil. You could also use one of those cookie scoops - but use a little one. These really puff up. The amount of dought for one-bite donut ball was probably about 3/4 teaspoon.
This was my grandfather's sister's recipe.
