Kate Middleton wears black to a wedding

I like the dress, it's so pretty for winter.  Not crazy about the hat though.

TLo finally got around to posting pics (I was really hoping they'd have some better ones) and critiquing the outfit -- apparently it was a sheer panel.  But they didn't have any pics of just the dress itself.  Le sigh.  They didn't have the designer of the dress either, just the jacket (which I kinda covet now), so I couldn't even go digging for it that way.

Regardless, sheer panel or not, all black ensemble or not, I really liked it and would like to appropriate the coat and the shoes for myself.  I think that the thing that tipped it toward being maybe too much black was the hat -- but I also suspect that it might not have been so overwhelmingly black without the coat.  And since we haven't seen any coatless pictures, I'm not willing to come out and say that it was inappropriately funereal to wear an awesome black coat over a LBD to a winter wedding.

I like the coat, too. I keep hearing that velvet is trendy right now, but I've been wondering how to work it into an outfit without it coming off kinda Willy Wonka. I think she's really working that coat.

Aah, too much black indeed but I saw pictures from another angle (the pic I had seen was from the side so it looked all dark and almost gloomy even though Kate was smiling) and the front panel definitely looks quite sheer. And upon closer inspection, I did see cleavage, too!

I'll take back my previous post, after seeing those other pictures (I thought it was weird that I had such a different opinion) . She does look lovely, but I guess the dark hat was a little too much.

(I did, however, see a video about said wedding, and watched an interview of them after announcing their engagement, and noticed two things : 1) They are definitely lovely and I wish them the best and 2) I really should brush up my UK English skills, it was pretty hard understanding them )

It's apparently the same dress she wore to Peter and Autumn Phillips' wedding (Peter Phillips is Prince William's cousin, Princess Anne's son) a couple of years ago, although then she teamed it with a cream jacket.

I kind of love the fact that she wore the same dress to 2 different weddings - shows you don't have to buy a new outfit for every single occasion.  I don't have a problem with the dress either the color (in NY most of the time females wear black dresses to weddings) or the cut.

I like it even more now that I've seen an actual photo of the dress without the coat.  Not funereal at all, IMO, or really conservative but very cute.

I don't think it's the same dress. It's a cheaper version which can be ordered from a clothing website for anyone who wants to copy Kate's look.

I don't see anything wrong with the dress and I love the coat. Black to a wedding is quite common in my experience.

There was a time when most fashion was based on what the royals were wearing, so we could see a huge increase in the number of black dresses at weddings.

Also, hers appears to be silk.

That one in picture is clearly stretchy cotton with a sheer nylon panel.

Oh sorry about that, I meant design-wise, not the material....the link I clicked to that page said it was the same design, but 'affordable'. I thought that even if the material were different, we could see the design.

I think the panel design is the same, for those concerned with "how much cleavage/how deep does it go", so we did get to see that.

The skirt is different, at least, as we saw in the picture of Kate in the dress with the cream jacket. Her skirt is definitely not as tight. We still don't have a clear answer on whether hers has sleeves or not.
