What're ya doin' New Year's Eve?
« on: December 27, 2006, 02:44:21 PM »
Last year it rained.  So we didn't go out at all.  But the year before, we went to a local restaurant, where we know the owners...at about 11pm and hung out 'til just after midnight.  It was fun!  (And not too far from home...then again, nothing is on this mountain!  lol)

This year, we have tickets to what looks like is going to be a very fun NYE party, at one of the nearby Beds and Breakfasts.  The owners are a couple of really fun guys, who LOVE to doi it up for the holidays!  We're really looking forward to it...and lots of people we know are going.

So what're you all doin?  Staying home? (That's usually been us too, actually.)  Or goin' out?  What's your favorite way to bring in the New Year?  (Keep it clean!  lol)

I got invited to two shindigs. The first is the annual NY's party my friends through that I have been going to for the past five years. This year, another attendee and I decided that we were sick of it and were looking for something with more excitement. That party is attended mostly by parents with their kids, and we just got tired of sitting around year after year, being bored and watching everything revolve around the stupid kids. So this year another group of my friends are going out to dinner at a nice restaurant, then back to one of their houses for fun and games, then maybe walking to the river to see the fireworks going off. I am looking forward to this new change of plans. We might make a brief appearance at the other party just to pay our regards.

We usually throw a party, which is so much fun to put on.  When we bought this house, DH turned the basement into a bar, or as his friends call it, The Man Room.  Actually, all of the gals we know like it, too.  So, people can hang out down there, with the louder crazy music, play pool/darts, sing karaoke (sp?), or go further back in the basement to our wine room and do tastes or make their own concoctions.  Upstairs, I *love* to turn the sitting area into a lounge: large throw pillows & plants everywhere, mood lighting, play jazz, reggae, basically turn it into the groove room, lol.  We've always had an "anything goes" dress code, as some guests show up in pajamas (they know they aren't driving home), and some like to pull out their best/funniest outfits.  A couple of us girls like to find crazy vintage gowns, then go barefoot or in slippers.  We're an odd group, we know.   :D

This year, lots of new births and marriages, so the group has split a little.  We'll still have a party, but it will be much smaller and most who are coming will want to hang out in The Man Room, lol.

Really...I just like any excuse to dress up and make fun appetizers!

We are hosting a small party.

I'm very excited, I used to host a party every year, but when DH and I married, we decided we could only handle one big party each year.  His Halloween party meant so much to him that I gave up the New Year's Eve party.  Since we have not done the Halloween party for the last couple of years, for varying reasons, we decided to do the NYE one this year.

Of course, the party is going to be small because we forgot to send out the invitations :o. (Long story...)

I don't know yet.

I've been to Times Square a couple of times (1998-1999 and 1999-2000) when I first moved to NYC and for the millennium change, but that was enough for me.

But I'm sure that, if nothing else, I will watch the ball go down on TV.
I'm away from sanity right now...please leave a message after the beep.

I was invited to my friend's family's NYE party a few weeks ago, but that was before I learned my aunt is coming up with my 2 littlest cousins (4 and 2) for New Year's, since they couldn't make it for Christmas cuz her husband had to work.

So that plan has probably changed, and chances are I'm going to be spending New Year's with my family but I'm not sure whose house things are taking place at, or what is happening. Don't you just love it when you have no details on what is supposed to be happening for your family holiday gatherings?  ::)

My DH and I have found a sitter for the Bug, who is willing to stay overnight. So we are going to a small party at a friend's house, and for the first time since the Bug was born we will both be able to imbibe at the same time :). Usually, one of us has a drink while the other stays sober (in case an issue comes up with the boy. He's got a chronic health condition, so we've been very careful about making sure we can bolt for the ER if we have to). We're going to stay the night there, and come home in the after-waking hours. Such luxury!  ;D

My husband usually works with one of the networks in Times Square on NYE.  This year, however, he'll just be getting home from an NFL show in DC.  SO - it'll be movies and snacks and champagne for us!  YAY!

DH and I usually fall asleep in front of the TV, watching events going on at Times Square.

Vegas is CRAZY at New Years so I never, ever go anywhere.  Not even down to the corner store.  Ever.  No way.   :P

I've never been to Times Square on New Year's Eve, but I'm not sure I'm willing to go voluntarily into such a smash of people (my new made-up term). I think I'll stay in my Maryland home and not be out with the crazy drivers.

I hate being stuck in crowds, so I never go to Times Square.  I'm tentatively invited to a friend's house, but I don't know if I want to go.  I find their son annoying and coming home after midnight on that subway line isn't fun.

For the past few years I've stayed home and rung in the New Year by watching it on Univision.  They have the best New Year's show.

we are going over to my parents.  For a party I created involving my folks, my ILs, and Mr. Dawb's grandma.

Could be interesting.

And my folks don't allow alcohol in their house, so no one will over-indulge.

I'm not a party person, so I'll probably try out one of the new workout DVDs I got for Xmas.
