Thread-Killing
« on: March 01, 2011, 06:02:04 PM »
Anybody else ever feel like a thread-killer? Like, you post to a thread, maybe even just a small comment, and then NOBODY ELSE posts in that thread ever. Or at least, not for several days, when previously it seemed like new posts were appearing several times a day.

Paranoia? Lack of perspective? Lack of patience?

Posted somewhat in jest but also curiosity if anyone else has felt this way. Um, and if I AM doing something to kill threads for real... please let me know.

Oh yea.  I feel like I do that.  :)  You're not alone.

I think every newbie feels like that at one point or another. For a while, when I first came here, I was tempted to change my name to 'DangerMouth, Killer of Threads' ;D

I always thought it was me...

ETA: I've also discovered what I will refer to as Audrey's Law: the longer you spend composing a reply, the greater the likelihood it will be a thread killer.

Or worse, the thread's been locked :D

Some figures which had a good source but for which you'll have to trust me befuase I'm not going to shuffle the paperwork. Most of the posting in any forum is done by 1% of the visitors. Another 5% post frequently and another 20% or so post infrequently.

Therefore a thread is likely to die after X number of posters have had their say. Unless the OP adds more or the posters fight amongst themselves it should be a reasonably consistent number.

I'd like to see eHell percentages actually. That would be worth a white paper.

I've never noticed it of any of you or anyone else, if that helps.

I've always pictured the entire ehell community reeling in stunned silence at the silliness/irrelevance/whatever of my post.

I have that effect on normal conversation, so yeah, I'm a little insecure when it comes to online ones as well.  :-[

I have so felt like this. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Now, if I kill this thread too...
