Am I really the person to be telling this to?
« on: December 30, 2006, 06:36:39 PM »
As I've mentioned before, I work at a coffee shop.   Today we were VERY busy, in fact I had about 16 drinks lines up that I was trying to make, I had made a mistake on one drink so that backed me up even more, I spilled something else, so I was wallowing in a mess and trying to keep my cool (aka try not to cry) while making 16 drinks at once.   There are other employees doing other things that involve less concentration.   So who does a customer decide is the best person to go "EXCUSE ME EXCUSE ME!" to? Yes, ME. And what did she want? To tell me that the bathroom was out of toilet paper.   Do I really seem like the best choice to be telling that to?  Did she except me to leave everything to change the roll?

(and just so you know, it was NOT out of paper, the roll holder was out, but there was a perfectly good roll placed on top of the toilet. While it was not correctly hanging, it was perfectly usable none the less.)

Sorry if this was sort of venty, but it nearly threw me off the edge.  Who does that!!!!

Well - I'd wager that she told you because you seemed to be the most visible employee, not because she expected you to drop everything else you were doing.  Quite possibly, she figured that you'd notify the employee who was in charge of the washrooms on that particular shift.

I know that it's a hassle that you didn't need on an already-busy day, but many  restaurants do have a sign in the washroom saying something like "please notify us if this restroom needs our attantion" - so you can't very well get upset when customers proceed to do just that.  Who knows, she might have not even seen the extra roll.

Eh, I dunno, we do not have such a sign (its only one bathroom not a big room with a bunch of stalls) and there was another employee who was standing around rolling change by the cash registers (dont get me started on why she was rolling change when we were so busy!) who was much more visible than me, as I was hidden (or at least I thought I was!) behind the machines!
