Emoticons gone textual?

Am I the only seeing the word for the emoticon instead of the actual gif?
e.g. Tongue instead of  :P or Wink instead of  ;)

I've noticed it showing up as text in quotes once in a while. I'm on IE.

I'm at home now and it is fine in Safari.

Are you on the newest version of IE by any chance?  Have you hit the compatibility button?
