I agree on the office nail clipping, one of my coworkers clips his nails WHILE on the phone with our suppliers...

Also, one of the accountants in our office walks by my group every morning, and says "Good Morning, Retail Division" (we supply stores with perishable products, don't actually work in the stores).  This drives me crazy!! Does that mean he doesn't want Sales to have a good morning?  What about Bookkeeping and Data Entry?  He never says anything to them.  Why doesn't he just say a general good morning to everyone? Some morning I'm going to get everyone in my group to say "Good morning, Accounting!" and see how he likes it.

When people scrape their forks against their teeth when they are eating. oooohhh.. just thinking about it makes my teeth hurt!

You just made me squirm just thinking about it!

Oh, all these years I thought it was just me!!! The worst is when I mention somethign to the offender and they seem to be just CLUELESS as to how to get their food off of their forks withuot scraping their teeth against them!!!

*shivers*

this is a very very baaad pet peeve. It's the sound of metal on teeth, and it's the SAME reason I need so much dental work. I JUST CAN'T stand the thought of going to the dentist!!!! luckily, I recently discovered sedation dentistry. ugh, wish me luck!

Crocs.

Uh-oh....I have seven pairs of Crocs....

I have one, but I want more...they are so comfy! Plus I can mow the lawn in them and then hose them off!

I've never worn more comfortable shoes than Crocs.

Okay, I have determined that I can NEVER try on a pair of crocs. I love cute shoes, but comfort is the MOST important issue for me so the majority of my shoes (or at least the ones I wear regularly) are pretty ugly but OH SO comfortable! but Crocs? lol.. I find them so hideous, I can't even bring myself to try them on. Even though my mom swears by them and they were tops on the list of my dad's wants for Christmas... I. Just. Can't.

After reading this thread... I am doubly determined to never slip on apaur, as I may find myself converted and wearing those things around, as much as I hate them!! *aaahhhh!!*

Another grammatical pet peeve:  when people say, "Where do we stop at?"  "Where do you get off at?" (instead of "At what point do we stop?"  "Where do you get off?")  That usage is typical of my father's side of the family, and I HATE it.

My mother's constant response to that was "Between the 'a' and the 't'."  I think it was a generational thing - she said that's what her teachers always said.

The funniest bit about that was that it was always delivered in her oh-so-ovuh-tha-top Southern accent.  Consider if Scarlett O'Hara said it -

There are so many others, such as the incorrect uses of "I" and "me", but nobody accepts those corrections except at work.

Add "myself" to "I" and "me" in the misused category.

The one that drive me up a tree is 'one of the only'. By definition, only is one. 'One of' indicates that there is more than one to choose from. Please, please, please, I beg of you, try using 'one of the few'! It makes sense!

Along those lines, saying "very" unique or any other qualifiers with unique. If something is unique, it's unique. There are not degrees of uniqueness!

As long as we're on the subject of grammatical pet peeves, I cannot STAND the expression "24/7"!!! To me it's a reminder that our modern culture is just overkill and "go-go-go."

I also feel like protesting whenever I see a split infinitive in print.  "To curiously explore"..."To powerfully oppose...." No, no!  "To explore curiously" or "To oppose powerfully"!!!

I can't stand split infinitives either.

Anybody that sits around sniffling and doesn't blow their nose or use nose spray to try and stop it. Double gross if their nose drips and they don't seem aware of it! Gross to infinity if it's at a place where people are eating!

People who say "a.m." followed by "in the morning", as in "I woke up at seven a.m in the morning". Redundant much??
I also foam at the mouth when people refer to their signature as their "John Henry". John Henry was a steel driving man, you twit! If you're putting your John Henry on something I think you're nailing it down with a railroad spike!
It's JOHN HANCOCK!!!!!!

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!

I love you.

HEY - I LIKE carob.  But I do agree that it does NOT "taste just like chocolate"  (I HATE people who keep saying that, It does NOT)

and raisins belong in oatmeal cookies - not chocolate chip cookies.

I agree. I don't mind carob at all (my mom used carob a lot in the late 70s/early 80s when she had a sensitivity to chocolate - she eventually decided the chocolate was worth the slight reaction!), but it does not taste just like chocolate, and I can't be fooled into thinking it's chocolate.

I love raisins and other dried fruits in cookies, but I would never try to pass them off as something else.

When people say something like "My grandma left me a momento."

It's MEMENTO darn it! Momento is a spanish word.

I'm with you on this one! I can't believe how common that mistake is.

"Teacher, can I go to the bathroom?"

"I don't know, Timmy. Can you?"
