Dear person in the cube next to me
sweedetobee:
I realize that email is important and we all use it. However, could you please turn off the alarm that rings every time you receive a new email? Being a trader I realize that you get emails constantly. At least one every minute in fact! I know this because I hear the little tone that goes off every time you get one.
I can see that you'd need to be notified of new emails, being that you are a trader, but there are other ways to accomplish this - such as settings that briefly flicker your screen, pop up the first line of the email in the bottom right hand corner of your screen or show the "mail box" icon on the bottom right hand corner of your screen. Perhaps you could try out one of these options? I will even show you how to change the setting.
We all sit out in the open and while it is impossible to be completely quiet, the constant dinging is slowly but surely driving me insane. I do not believe in violence but by 4PM I am ready to stab myself with the plastic silverware in my desk drawers, if only to distract me from the "ding ding ding" of your next email.
For the good of my sanity, physical well being and work ethic please mute your PC.

HushHush:
I totally feel your pain! My last cubical mate would play loudish music during her lunch hour...which was different from mine. Thankfully, we're always asking each other if our music is too loud or if something is bothering someone else. Pretty considerate group now.

Send this as an email and when it dings, say, "Oh! My email to you must have arrived!"

LOL!!
cubes are not fun in the best of circumstances and when you have inconsiderate people surronding you ... well it's Dilbert H - E - double hockey sticks.

I'm still adjusting to my new bifocals - at first I thought your post said "Dead person in the cube next to me". That definitely could be a problem...
