Posting in a folder, (but not a reply)
« on: December 06, 2006, 10:47:28 AM »
How do I post something that is not a reply? If I am in the folder, it looks like my only options are to reply to someone, or post a new topic.  Is there a way to post something that isnt a reply to 1 person only? (like if I want to post my opinion to multiple posters in 1 post)

Related but separate: Is there a way to Reply to All?
Thanks!

You are actually in a thread right now so your only option is to reply.  But back up to the main folder/board which in this case is "Glitches, errors, problems" and at the bottom right you'll see a "Start New Topic" button.   Just above the thread is a cascade of the files from Ehell>Forum Admin>Glitches, etc> Post reply.    See it?  You can click on the "Glitches, errors, problems" and it will take you back to this folder's main listing of threads so you can start a new topic.

I think this answers the question.  I am not looking to start a new topic in a folder, just post something in a thread that isnt a reply to only 1 person, I am looking for something like a general "post in this thread" button (instead of a "reply" to a poster button")

I liked the "reply to all" button in the last forum, because you could update everyone at once!

Well, actually in this forum the default is "reply to all" unless you use the "quote" feature.

So then how does the "show new replies to your posts" work? Is it just for topics that I started? Or does it just show when someone has chosen to reply (to all) but has selected the reply button on my post?

I am sure we will get used to the new forum soon enough!

rdge:

You can set your options to notify you when someone posts a reply in a thread you started, or a thread you posted in, or any particular thread at all that you mark that you're interested in.

To reply to a particular poster, just use their name :-)

It shows who has replied to topics you've started and those who have quoted you in other threads.

Ehelldame: got it, thanks.

Slartibartfast: I actually dont want to recieve an email everytime someone posts a reply to me (I am very opinionated, so that could clog up my inbox pretty quickly! :) - but thanks for the direction on how to do that.  I will definitely use that option at some point (sparingly, though!)

thanks again!

I set it up to send me an email every time someone posts in a thread I started - but yeah, I spend way too much time on here already, and I don't think my mailbox could take emails every time someone posted on the whole forum!
