repaying a kindness
« on: December 29, 2006, 05:31:48 AM »
another couple unexpectedly paid for our dinner and drinks as an anniversary gift.  We want to do something for them but are unsure if this would be insulting to them.  We do not know when their anniversary is and do not know their family to ask.  Any suggestions?  We are going out to dinner next weekend.  Should we pay for their evening?

I think it would be a very nice gesture for you to pay for their meal next week. Just tell them that you owe them one....
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

It would be nice of you to offer to pay for their meal, but don't be suprised if they won't accept it since they paid for yours as a gift.

Your meal out was a gift to you.  To offer to pay for the upcoming meal would be the same as giving someone who gave you a birthday present a gift for no reason, just to recipricate.  I have a feeling you would have preferred to pay for your own meal on your anniversary.  Some folks cannot stand to 'owe' anyone.  (I'm like that).  How about inviting them over for a meal at your home, instead?
I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.
