WOO-HOO!
« on: December 29, 2006, 03:14:23 PM »
Okay, sorry if the above doesn't make sense, but I'm SO excited!  I'm a 19 year old college student, working about 35 hours a week at two jobs, and attending school full time.  At one job (the one I've had the longest, in state government), I'm treated with the utmost respect and greatly enjoy my "work family."  At my other job, in the private sector, I'm an assistant to the most disgusting, demeaning, and heartless men there.

For example, I'm filling in for his normal assistant because she is out on maternity leave.  She had the baby one month ago and he has yet to call her to ask how she's doing.  She's still currently going through the red tape to take care of leave that she had earned and taken, that he refused to pay her for because she failed to clear it with him first. The reason she took leave?  To get away from her husband when things turned unexpectedly violent (while she was pregnant).  The divorce will be final in two months.

Why the WOO-HOO you ask?  Well, I just turned in my two weeks notice!  Yay for Reddie!  I'll be giving over my hours to the government job and will bring home a little more money!  Just in time for the new semester!  So, JerkBoss, feel free to  :-* my ( | )!

Great news! Glad to hear that you are getting away from that place. It doesn't sound like a healthy work environment.

Congratulations!  More Money, better conditions, only one job instead of two to handle is always good!

OTOH, wouldn't be too hard on the boss.  Clearly, she didn't feel close enough to him to clue him in on her emergency leave earlier.  As long as the birth went okay, many people would think "no news is good news."

I had an excellent relationship with my former boss, and in sixteen years he never, ever called me at home to find out how anything was.  I did take a leave of absence once.  I told him in March I might have to do that at some point in the future. I told him when I left for vacation in November that I might need that leave and be gone longer than a week.  My husband called him eight days after I left and told him I'd be back in December.  He said to my husband, "If Nonesuch needs a leave of absence, she'll have one."  He never even asked why. I reappeared in December, and not one word was said.  He wasn't my friend, he was my boss, and a good one, too. He paid my full salary the three extra weeks I was gone.

I think Miss Manners said, "Your friends at work are the people you would still see if one of you got fired."

And awesomeness ruled the land once again....
English doesn't borrow from other languages, it follows them down dark alleys and beats them up and searches their pockets for loose grammar.
