I can’t help but wonder what was so great about the other side of campus… XD

My family raised and released a litter of red squirrels after their mom was killed by a dog. This was very cute.

The squirrels at UW Whitewater were pretty entertaining, they were friendly and not afraid of people at all. A friend of mine even has pictures of people with squirrels on their shoulders.
I just spent 5 minutes at my desk tearing up and cheering on a squirrel on the internet… and i loved it!

When I was younger I was working after hour’s security at a construction site. One night I heard a lot of noise coming from the recently emptied construction dumpster. I found a really agitated Mamma raccoon running around the rim of the dumpster and jumping in and out. Inside the dumpster were two little baby raccoons that couldn’t get out.
It took a bit of doing as Mamma had no idea I wanted to help, was already agitated and clearly didn’t like my being there but I managed to slide a length of 2×4 into the dumpster and two very happy baby raccoons climbed up my improvised ramp and reunited with Mamma.

That looks like the path down from the dorms to the main part of the campus (you can see the intramural athletic field in the background.) On the other side of the wall is a small area with lots of trees, on one side of the track stadium. So yes, there’s probably lots of food there.
My dad worked for UCLA for many years, in the occupational safety office. Every couple of years they’d have to do a squirrel census — standing out with a counter clicking whenever they saw a squirrel.
