I’m not sure I’d escalate to a louder confrontation that attempts to get the rest of the theater audience ganging up on the blathermouth. Ask nicely and then seek theater management assistance.

I want a movie theatre sword!
That being said, I do chatter during commercials in theatres and make a bit of noise when frightened.
What’s worse is the people who chatter during a theatre performance. Not only are they interrupting the performance, the people on stage can actually hear them!
I have worked in both movie theaters and stage theaters and if a patron is being disruptive, you are fully withing your rights to alert theater staff immediately. Actually we prefer that someone alert us if there is a disruptive patron that we have not noticed. I once sat on the balcony steps so that I could get closer to a man who had been singing rather loudly during a performance. I was able to hear him when he started up again and asked him to please quiet down. His wife kept him quiet after that, they obviously didn’t want me to have to bring in my manager.
